hi, im kaia. im new here.
i live in north jersey right now.. and need to move soon. as per my original intention when i moved back to the area; i really want this move to be into NYC or at least somewhere in the surrounding areas. so far, im mainly looking at staten island, long island, parts of brooklyn, and parts of queens.
heres my main dilemma (besides time and money issues):
-im queer ; and want to live with likeminded people (and in a safe area)
-i smoke pot and want to live with people that are okay with that
these factors are making it tough to find roommates, but i know there have to be places out there that meet these criterea..
does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to go about looking for apartment shares, roommates, etc?
also, any other or maybe more relevant LJ communities i could ask in?
if i was you, id look in the williamsburg, long island city area, theres a new money community there, lots of cats that used to live downtown buying up queens/ brooklyn real estate cheap... queens is so packed and busy that theres very few places people would care who you are or what you do... its better to look along the lines of the job you want and as long as it takes to get there

i actually ended up finding a nice place in forest hills, for now.
still trying to find a decent job tho :/
williamsburg would be perfect and you can get good prices....you might get lucky looking downtown in manhattan....

thanks; this post is from ages ago, though.
i lived in forest hills for a while cus i found some queer girls and an ftm to live with on some message boards... and now, im in love and just got an apartment with my girlfriend in downtown flushing (koreatown). its a great area simply because noone around there really pays much attention to you in the way they do in a an area like forest hills; which was practically 0all white, rich people.
we are happy there so far :)
